Because of state regulations, state monies may not be used for any parking purposes on campus. This means construction, improvement, and maintenance of all parking facilities at UCCS are financed solely through permit sales, parking fines, and visitor parking. Annual revenues from parking must be sufficient to satisfy reasonable operating expenses and to repay revenue bonds sold to construct parking facilities.
Do Faculty and Staff pay for parking or just students?

I am a faculty or staff member at UCCS. Why can't the University pay for my parking?
Colorado Revised Statute (CRS) 24-30-202(22) gives authority to the State of Colorado Controller's Office to make fiscal rules controlling the type of perquisites which may be afforded to employees in addition to their regular salaries. The State of Colorado fiscal rule regarding travel states reimbursement for travel expenses (including parking) is only allowed when travel is for official University business that directly benefits the State of Colorado. Therefore, day to day travel to and from the employee's primary workplace, as well as parking once at the primary workplace, is not an allowable expense.
I see that there are some reserved spaces on campus. Who are these spaces for and do they pay for parking?
Certain administrators (the chancellor, vice chancellors,and deans), may have a reserved parking space. They not only pay for a parking permit but they pay a premium to have the reserved space. Not all administrators opt for a reserved parking space.
Is there enough parking to keep up with demand?
Yes. Parking and Transportation Services closely monitors parking conditions and usage patterns. To date, between permitted lots and free parking, we have been able to meet parking demand, and have plans for additional off-site parking in the case of an overflow. Parking is continually added as the campus grows.
What do I need in order to purchase a parking permit?
Students will need to be registered for classes and have a way to pay for the permit. During the fall, spring and summer semesters, permits must be either purchased via the on-line parking portal registration process, or purchased at the parking office. Permits are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is recommended to purchase early.
NOTE: If someone else is going to purchase a permit for you, they should have your ID. Immediate family members may pick up their students' permit with no problem.
If I am a student and I am waitlisted for a parking permit, what is my chance of actually purchasing a permit?
It depends. During the first several weeks of each semester, Parking Services evaluates parking availability on a daily basis. If the evaluation reveals open spaces, Parking Services will begin releasing some or all of the waitlisted permits per the amount of parking spaces available. Parking Services will contact you via email if your waitlist number is being released and you may then log into the parking portal to purchase the permit or come into Parking Services.
Why do you have fewer parking spaces than the total number of the campus population?
Not everyone is on campus at the same time. Parking Services closely monitors parking conditions and usage patterns, and has determined an appropriate amount of parking spaces based on classroom capacity, usage, and budgetary constraints. The first few weeks of each semester often stress parking capacity, as more people are on campus than normal, but returns to normal levels shortly thereafter.
What if I've purchased a permit but cannot find a space?
If you have difficulty finding a space, please try looking in the other lots that your permit is valid in. If you still cannot find a parking space, please contact Parking Services at 719-255-3528 and we will assist you. This also helps the office be aware of overflow conditions.
TIP: Usually the upper two levels of the Gateway Garage are the last to fill. Additionally, those with yellow permits may park in the visitor portion of the Alpine Garage.
What if I can't afford to purchase a permit or I am on the waitlist. Where can I park?
Students, faculty and staff who do not want to purchase a main campus permit or individuals waitlisted for a permit may park at 500 series lots and and near the Ent Center for the Arts building currently under construction (formerly known as the Four Diamonds Sports Complex), located at 5225 North Nevada Avenue at no cost. A shuttle from the Ent Center for the Arts to Centennial Hall runs Monday-Friday. The shuttle schedules may be found by accessing Transportation Services.
Do I have to pay to ride the shuttle or park at any of the 500 series lots near the Ent Center for the Arts building (formerly known as the Four Diamonds Sports Complex)?
As long as you are parked in one of the 500 series lots, parking is free and no permit is required to be displayed. The shuttle to and from campus is free as well. Shuttles run Mon-Fri from 6:40a - 10:30p while classes are in session. Funding for the shuttle system is provided by the student "Transportation and Safety" fee which all students pay when registering for classes. The Ent Center for the Arts area shuttle stop is located just east of lot 576 and a shuttle normally arrives about every 10-20 minutes throughout the day.
Is there enough parking available at the free 500 series parking lots on the north part of campus?
Yes! There are approximately 1300 free parking spaces in the 500 series lots at and near the Ent Center for the Art building currently under construction (this areas is formerly known as the Four Diamond Sports Complex). Please click HERE to see a current UCCS parking lot map.
What if I can't find a spot in the free 500 series parking lots?
If the 500 series lots at and near the Ent Center for the Arts (formerly known as the Four Diamonds Sports Complex) are full, including Lot 580, and there are no parking attendants directing traffic, please contact Parking Services at 719-255-3528 immediately. Staff from Parking Services constantly monitor parking conditions, and have additional off-site parking available in the case of an overflow and will direct traffic in such an event.
TIP: During the first few weeks of each semester, additional parking attendants staff the area. If you cannot find the attendant in your lot, they are likely in an adjacent lot.
What is the purpose of having parking regulations and where can I find them?
Parking regulations are rules for all individuals to follow while operating or parking a vehicle or bicycle on UCCS property. These regulations help to provide and maintain a safe and secure environment where academic pursuits may flourish in accordance with the established goals of UCCS. This goal is accomplished by providing parking to the community through the management and maintenance of parking facilities and providing safe transport of our most import resource (people) from far parking lots to campus. How long do I have to file an appeal for a parking ticket I received (contest the ticket)?
Tickets must be paid or appealed within 10 days from the date the citation was issued. It will not be possible to appeal a ticket that is over the 10 days from the date the ticket was issued.

What happens if I do not pay a ticket?
You run the risk of having a financial stop put on your student account. This may impact your ability to register for classes, obtain grades and transcripts, or even to graduate. Unpaid tickets left on student accounts will eventually be forwarded to a collection agency. If not a current UCCS student, unpaid parking citations will be sent to a collection agency. This may affect the credit rating of the vehicle's registered owner. In addition, individuals with outstanding citations may be subject to booting and/or towing while parked anywhere on UCCS owned property.
I sold my vehicle; why has your office sent me a letter for an outstanding ticket?
Upon sale of a vehicle, you are required to remove your license plates. If you fail to remove your license plates, you will still show as the registered owner of that vehicle until it is re-registered. The person ultimately responsible for parking tickets is the registered owner of the vehicle, providing we cannot associate the vehicle to a current student. Providing a bill of sale or other documentation may help absolve you of the responsibility for any citations received.
